Millions of women and children walk more than three miles to collect water each day for their families. Often, the water collected is unsafe to drink. But there is hope. This year, we will be walking to raise funds and awareness to help fight the global water crisis. Together, we will walk to bring clean, safe water to 2,500 people in need around the world.
We walk, so others don't have to.
Where We Will Meet In-Person:
Belmont Lake State Park September 28, 2024 at 10:00 AM maps.app.goo.gl/QsFAKvsvztb6uDEn8
What Is Expected If You Join and Volunteer:
In order to be in solidarity with people who take this journey every day, we will walk close to a mile, which would be about 4 laps around the lake. After the second lap, we will fill up our buckets with water from the lake and carry them the remaining 2 laps. The event is suppose to be a nice group activity and if you have trouble carrying the water you are under no obligation to do so, but we'd highly appreciate it if you tried.
What Will Be Provided:
Each registered volunteer will get a buckets to walk around the lake Small snacks and water will be provided at the end
What You Should Bring:
Wear comfortable walking shoes and your choice of clothing. Most walkers wear athletic type clothing, but others have walked with sweaters and sweatpants. Please try to bring your Walk for Water t-shirt. If you did not receive your t-shirt in time for the event, try to wear a solid color shirt or sweater.
Further Details:
9:30 AM: Suggested arrival to gather all your stuff and prepare for the walk. Parking is not free because it is a state park. The cost to park is $8 per car, so if you want to carpool with someone to the event, this would save you some money.
10:00 AM: The event starts at 10:00 AM. Please try to get there a little earlier so that I can check you in. Please go to the tent with our company banner (i.e. Pace) and get your bucket and Walking number. Your number will be entered into a Raffel! If you've registered, you'd likely receive a t-shirt. I will hand those out the day of the Walk. If you did not receive your t-shirt in-time because you registered later, wear a nice solid color t-shift, preferably a nice dark-blue/navy.
10:30/10:45 AM: Once we have everyone registered, we'll take a group photo and begin to walk the perimeter of the lake at Belmont Lake State Park.
10:45/11:15 AM: We will walk the first 2 laps with our buckets nice and empty.
11:15/ 11:45 AM: At the end of our second lap, you'll be instructed to grab some water from the lake with your bucket and we will continue to walk the rest of the 2 laps around the lake.
11:45 AM/12:00 PM This is additional time for people who walk at a leisurely pace.
12:00/1:00 PM At the end, you can dump your bucket full of lake water back into the lake and join us for snacks and drinks at the tent. We'll also have a few games like corn-hole/bag toss and ladder toss. If you didn't arrive early and get a chance to read the work that Water Mission is involved in, after the event is your chance to learn more. There will be posters to teach you more about the hard work Water Mission does to bring clean water to various regions of the world.
Total estimated time for the event is approximately 2-3 hrs.
